Morpheus8 RF Microneedling Treatment - NYMD

Morpheus8 RF microneedling at NYMD Center: how it works, what it treats, sessions, numbing, downtime, results over months, and who is a good candidate.

Morpheus8 is a radiofrequency (RF) microneedling treatment. A handpiece presses a grid of very fine needles into the skin, and each needle releases a pulse of radiofrequency energy as it goes in. The needles create tiny controlled channels, the heat tightens and remodels the deeper layers, and over the following weeks and months the skin responds by building new collagen. The goal is firmer, smoother, more even skin without surgery.

It sits between standard microneedling and more aggressive procedures. Plain microneedling works through the needle channels alone. Morpheus8 adds heat at adjustable depths, which is why it is used for loose skin and deeper scarring as well as surface texture. The manufacturer, InMode, describes the device as FDA cleared as a fractional radiofrequency device for soft tissue contraction, and a 2026 systematic review of RF microneedling for facial rejuvenation found consistent improvement in texture and tightening with mostly mild, short-lived side effects such as redness and swelling.

Morpheus8 is offered through the medical spa at NYMD Center, alongside Botox, dermal fillers, microneedling and Emsculpt. Treatments are planned and performed by our aesthetic team in a medical practice, which means your health history, medications and skin are reviewed before anything is done.

What Morpheus8 treats and who it suits

Most people come in for one of a few reasons: skin that has started to loosen along the jawline, neck or lower face; fine lines and wrinkles; uneven texture and enlarged pores; acne scars; or dullness and uneven tone from years of sun. Morpheus8 is also used on surgical scars and on stretch marks, which is one of its better uses on the body, where the stomach, arms, buttocks, hips and thighs are common areas. On the face it can be used close to the eyes and around the mouth when the settings are adjusted for that thinner skin.

The best candidates have mild to moderate laxity, texture problems or scarring and expect gradual improvement rather than a surgical result. Morpheus8 does not replace a facelift for heavy sagging, and it will not change the volume lost in the cheeks and temples; that is a job for dermal fillers. It can be used across a wide range of skin tones, but the risk of temporary darkening or lightening of the skin is discussed with everyone, and settings are chosen with that in mind.

Treatment is usually postponed if you are pregnant, have an active skin infection, a cold sore outbreak or an open wound in the area, or a rash such as a flare of eczema or psoriasis there. We also ask about a tendency to form keloid scars, blood thinners and bleeding problems, recent use of isotretinoin for acne, and implanted electronic devices such as a pacemaker, because these change whether or how RF energy can be used safely.

How we plan your treatment

Every Morpheus8 course starts with a consultation. Your provider looks closely at your skin, asks what bothers you most, and goes over your medical history, medications, supplements, prior procedures and history of cold sores. Photographs are taken so that results can be judged against where you started rather than from memory. If you are prone to cold sores, an antiviral before treatment is usually arranged.

From that assessment comes a plan: which areas, what depth, how many sessions and how far apart, and whether Morpheus8 is the right tool at all. For someone whose main concern is surface texture and mild scarring with little looseness, standard microneedling may be enough. For deep frown lines, Botox often does more. Being told that another treatment fits better is part of a good consultation.

Treatment options, from gentlest to most involved

Daily skin care and sun protection

Daily broad-spectrum sunscreen, avoiding tanning, and not smoking slow the collagen breakdown that makes skin loosen and wrinkle. MedlinePlus calls sun exposure the greatest single factor in visible skin aging. None of the procedures below lasts as long without this foundation.

Standard microneedling

Microneedling without radiofrequency improves texture, fine lines and mild acne scarring with a shorter recovery. It is a good first step for younger skin or for people who want the least downtime. It does less for laxity.

For the treatment itself, a numbing cream is applied and left on for a while before the handpiece is used, and most people describe the sensation as warm prickling that is tolerable. Session length depends on the size and number of areas, from under an hour for a small area to longer for the full face and neck or a body area. Afterward the skin is red and slightly swollen, usually for a few days, with tiny grid marks and some dryness or flaking as it heals.

Results build slowly. Some tightening can be noticed within a few weeks, but collagen remodeling continues over roughly three months and beyond. Most people need a series, commonly one to four sessions spaced several weeks apart, and some return for maintenance later. The trade-off compared with standard microneedling is a bit more discomfort and recovery in exchange for more effect on looseness and deeper scars.

Combining treatments

Morpheus8 addresses the skin itself. Lines caused by muscle movement respond better to Botox, and lost volume responds to fillers. Many plans combine them, with timing between treatments set by your provider.

What to expect at your visit

At the consultation you will talk through your goals, have your skin examined and photographed, and leave with a written plan and aftercare instructions. On treatment day, arrive with clean skin and no makeup, allow time for the numbing cream to work, and plan a quiet evening. For about two weeks afterward, protect the treated skin from direct sun and use sunscreen daily, keep it moisturized with a bland ointment or cream, and skip harsh exfoliants and retinoids until your provider says to resume. Makeup is usually fine after a couple of days. If you are coming to our Midtown office, our Morpheus8 in New York City page covers the practical side of planning treatment around city life.

Side effects and when to call us

Redness, swelling, pinpoint marks and dry, flaky skin are expected and fade over days. Less common problems include blistering, prolonged swelling, infection, darkening or lightening of the skin, and, rarely, scarring. Call us if you notice spreading redness, increasing pain, pus, fever, blisters, or a cold sore after treatment. These are uncommon, but they are easier to treat when seen early.

Questions patients ask

Does Morpheus8 hurt?

Most people find it tolerable. A topical numbing cream is applied before treatment and left on long enough to take effect, and the sensation during treatment is usually described as warmth and prickling. Deeper settings and bony areas such as the forehead and jawline feel more intense than softer areas. Your provider can adjust depth and pace, and you can ask for a pause at any point.

How much downtime should I expect after Morpheus8?

Plan on a few days of redness and mild swelling, with small grid-like marks and some dryness or flaking as the skin heals. Many people return to work within a day or two, especially after lighter treatments, and makeup is usually allowed after a couple of days. Deeper treatments and body areas can take a little longer to settle. Avoid direct sun during healing.

How many Morpheus8 sessions will I need?

It depends on what you are treating and how your skin responds. Many people need a series, commonly one to four sessions spaced several weeks apart, to give the skin time to heal and build collagen between treatments. Deeper acne scars and looser skin generally need more sessions than texture alone. Your provider will give you an estimate at the consultation.

When will I see results from Morpheus8?

Some people notice smoother, tighter-looking skin within a few weeks, once the initial swelling settles. The more meaningful change comes from new collagen, which builds gradually over about three months and can keep improving after that. Comparing your follow-up photographs with those taken at the consultation is the most reliable way to judge progress.

Who should not have Morpheus8?

Treatment is usually postponed during pregnancy and when there is an active skin infection, cold sore, open wound or flaring rash in the area. People with a history of keloid scarring, bleeding problems or blood thinner use, recent isotretinoin treatment, or an implanted electronic device such as a pacemaker need individual review before RF energy is used. Your provider covers all of this at the consultation.

What is the difference between Morpheus8 and regular microneedling?

Both use fine needles to create tiny channels that trigger collagen repair. Morpheus8 adds radiofrequency heat delivered at adjustable depths, which makes it more useful for loose skin and deeper scarring. Standard microneedling works closer to the surface, usually with a shorter recovery, and is often enough for mild texture problems and fine lines.
