STDs & STIs

STDs and STIs can be a common occurrence for those who are sexually active. To keep yourself and future partners protected, getting tested for these diseases and infections should be a top priority. Doing so allows you to receive treatment before any serious complications take hold, or before you spread them. At New York Medicine Doctors, we’ll walk you through the types of tests we can perform, and explain which ones might work best for you.

What Are The Common STDs and STIs Tested For?

There are a plethora of STDs and STIs that a person can contract in their lifetime. When you decide to come for us for testing, our doctors will let you know which ones they believe you should be tested for. Some STDs and STIs should be screened for every year, while others may only be necessary when symptoms are present. Below are a few examples of the common ones we can test to diagnose:

  • Chlamydia.
  • Gonorrhea.
  • HIV.
  • Syphilis.
  • Hepatitis.
  • Genital herpes.
  • HPV.

How Do Tests Work?

The tests administered by our team will vary based on what we believe you are suffering from. In some instances, a urine sample can point to positive cases of an STD or STI. For other problems, we may use a swab to collect a sample from the area in question. You can trust that our staff will choose the test that works best for you.

What Happens After The Results?

Should the samples we collect test positive for an issue, our team will begin coming up with a treatment regimen right away. Additionally, you will need to inform your sexual partners of this diagnosis. You may have passed on the STD/STI to them, so they too should be evaluated to ensure they are healthy or are given the treatment they need.
